This video segment shows the swimming of normal sperm (lower part of the screen) and the abnormal ones (upper part of the field) for comparison. Observations on sperm recovered from the female reproductive tract (especially in the postcoital cervical mucus) or from the surface of zona pellucida have helped to define the appearance of a “normal” sperm.

The classification of sperm morphology is performed according to the scheme propposed by Kruger that has been described in detail in the 1999 edition of WHO manual.
